Added Protection for Dalby Mountain Car Park

Visitors to Dalby Mountain will notice a few changes to the parking arrangements at their next visit.

The Trust’s Dalby Mountain nature reserve, which was purchased in 1995, is our largest site at approximately 69 acres.  This is the only sizeable area of heather moorland owned by the Trust and is particularly attractive in the summer when the yellow bog asphodel is in flower and of course in late summer when the heather and Manx gorse are in full bloom.

Due to the popularity of this area the car park has become heavily used resulting in damage to the fragile habitats found on the mountain.  To protect these habitats, a series of wooden stobs have been placed around the car park (see work in progress, photo right).

The Trust does not wish to discourage anyone from enjoying the beauty and scenery of the area but hopes that there will be more considerate use of the car park.

An on-site interpretation board will be replaced in the near future.
