Out & About: March

March is always a good time to visit the Trust's Cooildarry reserve in Kirk Michael, or how about a walk along Marine Drive looking out for dolphins?

Spring flowers

wood anemone.jpgWhilst working on the reserve today, 4th March, the Trust's trusty band of conservation volunteers, or Muckers, were delighted to see great clumps of snowdrops dotted about, and the wild garlic was starting to peep through the undergrowth and uncurl its glossy green leaves.

Why not take a walk along the well maintained winding path that cuts through the centre of the reserve, over the wooden bridges, taking a few minutes to stop and watch the fast-running river, and look out for pretty pocket of primroses and the white flowers of the wood sorrel and wood anemone (right) which should be putting on a good show this month.

Risso's Dolphins

Marine Drive is a hotspot for our many frequent coastline visitors and, at this time of year, you might just be lucky to see the Risso's Dolphin, distinguishable from other dolphins by its blunter looking head.  Don't forget your binoculars and camera!
